The Loudmouth Quick Change Air Filter System eliminates your bike’s stock air filter, filter cage, and filter cage mount inside the air box. Designed to make air filter removal and installation a quick, 30-second affair, the system also increases airflow and in turn boosts horsepower.
Installing the Loudmouth was a cinch. We tested it on our ‘09 Yamaha YZ450F test bike, and all we had to do was remove the air filter. loosen the Allen bolt on the retaining ring around the filter cage, pull the cage mount out, install the Loudmouth intake, and tighten the clamp back up. The Loudmouth air filter is much larger than the stock filter, and without the backfire screen, or an air filter cage like the stock setup, a larger volume of filtered air can flow freely into the carburetor. Filter changes are a snap, as getting the round rubber lip of the Loudmouth filter to snap over the aluminum intake is a breeze. An automotive-style hose clamp holds the filter in place.
Ease of maintenance is not the only benefit, however, as we were able to detect immediate gains in power and throttle response out on the track. Low-end snap is much improved, and the bike has a torquier, more responsive feel down low. The Power is about the same as stock in the middle, but the bike pulls further in each gear at the top of the rpm range. Testing on the TWMX dyno revealed those same results, with almost a full horsepower gain and significant torque increases over much of the powerband. For $160 this system can’t be beat!
